There is a hypothesis that says a coffin was found in the port of Veracruz in Mexico, and it had the inscription ‘San Francisco de Potosí’ so it would be brought here. Opening the coffin, they found the Christ, but not how it is now – in different pieces. The friars could not match one piece with another. It is said that one morning, two natives came to knock on the door, and they came only with the duty of finishing this job. The friars didn’t trust them. At first, they did not agree to give them the chance to spend the night there. But on second thought, they gave them three days to stay inside, in locked cells. They would only give them bread and water, and if on the third day they did not finish putting together this work, they would die inside the convent.

It is said that at the end of the third day, the superior friar entered the cell. Upon opening, he finds the image on the wall of the beloved Christ of Veracruz, a glow coming out in the form of lightning – but no longer found the two Indians. It is said that these two Indians were angels sent by God to finish the unfinished work here. That is why it is said that this is not a work done by man, but a work done by God's hand, by Christ himself. Some writers call [it] ‘the silver Christ’. This is because of the ornamentation that surrounds the body – everything is pure silver. It demonstrates the wealth that was had in the time of the colony. – Patty
