This is another of Potosí’s problems, it seems to me. Before, [the street] going up to the plaza was one of the most polluted, and the result of that is carbon monoxide has deteriorated several houses. That was a totally contaminated street. They made a claim to the mayor. Now they are maintained [but] they did two months blocking up the square [in protest], because of their black balconies – over the paint that maybe is original. That is unfortunate, as you are going to give away original paint to carbon monoxide. China has interfered a lot here, because the monoxide with its buses has been very fucked up. In Cochabamba, you will not find a bus, but it’s just as polluted. Now if you go to La Paz, you will not find a bus, but what you will find is traffic everywhere. It’s fucked up.

And now Potosí is unfortunately becoming one [of those cities]. They are selling cars with diesel engines. They are half-used, and that is what happens. They send them to Potosí. So they are emanating all that [smoke] and when you go up [those streets], you see the carbon monoxide that they spread. It’s screwed up. Now they have cut the water on the mountain. I’ll take you to where they have cut it. I work with the children of San Ildefonso mine and I feel sorry for them. Now they do not have anything to drink. I don’t know what company it would be, but they’ve cut it all. They’ve come with welders. They have cut it and they have welded it. All that water… Where is it going? The water is going to the mills. You know that I do not lie to you; I never lie to you. They have cut the water, these bastards, all of it for the mills. – Lucho
